Our Wedding

THE BOATHOUSE

We are so excited to be tying the knot at the historic Prospect Park Boathouse!! This beautiful beaux-arts building on the Lullwater in Prospect Park was built in 1905, and was one of the first buildings in NYC to be declared a city landmark. Designed by Helmle, Huberty, and Hudswell (protégés of the architects of the old Penn Station), the building was scheduled for demolition in 1964...but thanks in part to the outrage sparked by the recent demolition of the old (and stunningly beautiful) Penn Station the year prior, a group of preservationists rallied together to save the Boathouse, and the building was spared at the eleventh hour. The following year the Boathouse became one of the first buildings in NYC to be declared a landmark, and later joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Today, the National Audubon Society operates the country’s first urban nature center at the Boathouse, educating thousands of city dwellers on Brooklyn’s native wildlife and natural ecosystem. We think the classic old architecture, NYC landmark status, and beautiful setting in the heart of our favorite park make the Boathouse a truly magical place to get married. We can’t wait to share it with all of you!!
